Section 2707. Advisory council

  • There is hereby established the osteoporosis
      advisory  council  to  advise  the  department  on  the  prevention  and
      treatment of osteoporosis,  including  the  development  of  educational
      materials and the establishment of public education campaigns, including
      developing professional education programs. The council shall consist of
      seventeen  members to be appointed within one year of the effective date
      of this section. Nine members shall be appointed by the governor,  three
      by  the  temporary  president of the senate, three by the speaker of the
      assembly, one by the minority leader  of  the  senate  and  one  by  the
      minority leader of the assembly. The governor shall designate one of his
      appointees  to be chairperson of the advisory council. The council shall
      include  representatives  of  the  department,   the   state   education
      department,  the  state office for the aging, persons with osteoporosis,
      experts  in  diet  and  exercise,  experts  in  osteoporosis   research,
      prevention   and   treatment,   and  health  care  providers,  including
      representatives from the following professions:  nursing,  social  work,
      prosthetics   and   orthotics,   physical   and   occupational  therapy,
      chiropractics, and pain management and rehabilitation.  The  members  of
      the  advisory  council  shall receive no compensation for their services
      hereunder, but they shall be entitled to reimbursement for their  actual
      and  necessary  traveling  and  other  expenses  heretofore or hereafter
      incurred by them in connection with  the  performance  of  their  duties
      under this section.
