Section 2409. New York state innovation in breast cancer early detection and research awards program

  • 1. There is hereby established, within  the
      department,  the  New  York  state  innovation  in  breast  cancer early
      detection and research awards program. This program  is  established  to
      recognize,  reward  and  promote innovation in breast cancer prevention,
      early  detection  and  research  by  dedicated   health   professionals,
      consumers,  nonprofit  organizations  or  other candidates. Awards shall
      include the monies in the New York state  innovation  in  breast  cancer
      early detection and research awards program fund, established by section
      ninety-five-a  of the state finance law, and must be used by the awardee
      or their designee for  breast  cancer  prevention,  early  detection  or
      research.
        2.  The New York state innovation in breast cancer early detection and
      research awards program shall  be  administered  by  the  breast  cancer
      detection  and  education  program  advisory council pursuant to section
      twenty-four hundred seven of this  title.  The  advisory  council  shall
      establish  eligibility  criteria,  procedures  for  the number of awards
      given, the nomination of awardees, the  conference  of  awards  and  the
      distribution of monies in the New York state innovation in breast cancer
      early detection and research awards program fund, established by section
      ninety-five-a of the state finance law.
        3.  New  York  state  innovation  in breast cancer early detection and
      research awards shall be given annually  to  a  health  professional,  a
      consumer, a nonprofit organization and/or other candidate who, according
      to  the  breast cancer detection and education program advisory council,
      best meets the criteria for receiving such awards. Notice of  conference
      of  the  awards  by  the  council  shall be transmitted to the temporary
      president  of  the  senate  and  the  speaker  of   the   assembly   for
      acknowledgement by joint resolution.
