Section 214. Judicial conference of the state of New York

  • 1. The judicial
      conference of the state of  New  York  is  hereby  continued.  It  shall
      consist  of  the  chief judge of the court of appeals who shall serve as
      chairman, the presiding  justice  of  the  appellate  division  of  each
      judicial department, one trial justice of the supreme court from each of
      the  state's  four  judicial departments, one judge each of the court of
      claims, the county court, the surrogate's court, the family  court,  the
      civil  court  of the city of New York, the criminal court of the city of
      New York, one judge of a city court outside the city of  New  York,  one
      judge  of  a district court, one justice of a town or village court, and
      from each judicial department, one member of the bar of this state.
        2. The chief judge of the court of appeals and the presiding  justices
      of  the  appellate divisions shall be members of the judicial conference
      during their respective terms of office.  The  other  members  shall  be
      chosen  by  the  judges of the courts on which they sit, except that the
      administrative board of the courts shall appoint the members of the bar,
      and the justice from a town or village court.
        3. The term of members of the judicial conference  shall  be  for  two
      years,  except as otherwise provided in subdivision two of this section.
      Members shall be eligible for reappointment to the conference. A vacancy
      occurring otherwise than by expiration of term shall be  filled  in  the
      same  manner as an original appointment for the unexpired term. A member
      shall  not  receive  any  compensation  for  serving  on  the   judicial
      conference  but  shall  be  allowed  his  actual  and necessary expenses
      incurred in the performance of his duties as a member.
        4. The chairmen and the  ranking  minority  members  of  each  of  the
      committees on judiciary and on codes of the senate and assembly shall be
      ex officio members of the judicial conference.
