Section 908. Appointment and salary of county clerks

1. The county clerks of the counties comprising the city of New York shall be appointed and removable in pursuance of section thirteen of article thirteen of the constitution. 2. Each of the county clerks of the counties comprising the city of New York shall receive an annual salary of not less than the compensation received by a judge of the civil court of the city of New York. 3. Said salaries shall be in lieu of all other fees or forms of compensation for services rendered in the performance of the duties of the office. 4. Notwithstanding any of the provisions of this section or of any other law, the salaries of any such county clerks may be increased by the chief administrator of the courts upon the recommendation of the administrative board of the courts, provided that if the salaries of any such county clerks are thus increased above the salaries provided for in this section, such salaries may likewise be decreased to any salaries not lower than the salaries provided for in this section.
