Section 27-949. Protection of standpipe system

(a) All parts of the standpipe systems that may be exposed to frost shall be protected from freezing by any one of the following methods: (1) The piping shall be frostproofed with insulation having a thermal conductance of 0.1 Btu/hr. per square foot of surface per degree F at a mean temperature of seventy to seventy-five degrees F. Insulation shall be protected to prevent water infiltration, and when exposed to the weather the insulation shall be covered with a forty-five pound roofing felt jacket or equivalent. (2) Steam or electric tracers may be used in conjunction with the insulation. (b) Tanks subject to freezing temperatures shall be protected.
